Stretch Your Core to Lengthen Your Drive
Stretching is a commonly overlooked aspect of your weekend golf game, but it can give your drives some pop.

Stretching is a must if you want to hit long golf drives. One of the most key areas to stretch is your core; or your neck, midsection and back. Stretching these muscles on a regular basis helps them unload with maximum swing speed, ultimately giving you maximum drive lengths.
To properly stretch your core, try to isolate either your upper body or your lower body to gain the biggest stretch and improvement in rotation. For example, to stretch your back, sit in a chair and reach around the back of the chair with both hands. Your lower body will remain still as you rotate your upper body and pull back.
To stretch your neck muscles, put both hands straight in front of you like you are holding on to a steering wheel, then begin to rotate your head back, keeping both arms in front of you, like you are back out a parked car. Rotate slowly as far as you can for a 10 count, then do the other side.
Side stretches will help both your abdominal muscles as well as your arms, so toss those in your stretching routine regularly. This type of core stretching will give your swing the extra kick it needs. |
